Then I was off to have my mammogram done. It was interesting because I knew that insurance wasn't going to cover it -- but with my family history, it made total sense. They called this week and this lady that called made it sound like I was crazy to do it without insurance paying -- I wanted to say, Lady, its $115 -- I spend more than that on pair of shoes! This is a little more important that those cute shoes!!
Anyway, I had heard such awful things about having it done -- but of course, none of my friends had ever done it -- and it wasn't the best thing I have ever done, but it wasn't the worst thing either. They had an option for some "pad" that supposedly made it better - so I opted for that, and I guess it did make it better. But just to keep you entertained - here are some of the thoughts that went through my head:
- Really? you want me to put what where?
- Um, I didn't think that you could squeeze the boob to get it that flat....
- seriously, I have boobs and you are making me get EVERY inch of boob on the xray plate - I feel for small chested girls....they are so screwed....you might have to put half of your upper torso in the "smoosher".
Then I went to go check in for the nuclear stress test. Yes, I know, you are thinking - why in the hell would you want to do all of this in one day? I guess I am a glutton for punishment. This stress test involved getting an IV put in and then doing the same stress test I had already done but at the end they pushed radioactive "stuff" through the IV so that they could see it flow through the heart. So, they put in the IV, then they had to tape these two syringes that were attached to it to my arm. Let's just say, the IV was in my hand, that was taped up my arm, and it was not very comfortable -- at all. And that was supposed to be the hand I was holding onto the treadmill with. Yeah, that was REALLY not fun.
This time I was still a mess -- but the techs that were doing the test this time were SO awesome and kept me laughing and talking the whole time and totally kept my mind off of what was going on. And the good thing was that my recovery time was SO much better this time and my blood pressure never got way out of whack and my pulse went back down pretty well too.
I do have to go back next week to do a resting scan -- you can do them in the same day, but they usually do it over 2 days. So I have to go back on Wednesday to do that.....along with my two other doctors visits.
I am just so ready for all of this to be over....so ready.
